HISTORAF: A History of the RAF

Welcome to HISTORAF.com

Take a historical journey from the origins of the Royal Air Force with my collection of model aircraft.

The majority of the collection is in 1/48th scale, this collection of hand painted models traces the history of the RAF from the First World War to the present.

The collection represents some of the multitude of aircraft used by the Royal Air Force, Fleet Air Arm and Army Air Corps over the years.

May I present to you, my collection. Browse the galleries and I hope you enjoy the journey through time.

The origins of the RAF date back to the formation of the Royal Flying Corps in 1912 and The Royal Naval Air Service in 1914. On 1st April 1918 the two amalgamated and became the Royal Air Force. A naval branch of the RAF was established in 1924. In 1939, with the impending doom of World War 2, the Admiralty resumed control of the Naval aircraft operating from carriers and land based coastal stations and the Fleet Air Arm was established. The Army Air Corps used mainly helicopters in ground support and evacuation roles.
