WW2: American Aircraft in British Use

This category highlights some of the vast numbers of American built aircraft, fighters and bombers, which were operated by Britain during WW2. There are too many to include. Britain was not ready for the German onslaught and many of her aircraft were outdated or obsolete by the time war broke out. Development was swift but supply and demand slow for most of the new fighters and bombers. Many American built aircraft were used to fill stop gaps or interim periods to keep up the numbers of British aircraft available for combat. When America entered the War and their industrial might was unleashed, many thousands of American built aircraft were secured on the Lend/Lease deal to Allied and Commonwealth countries.
