During the 1930’s a switch in aircraft design led to the development of the monoplane. However, many designs were still incorporating the biplane. In this category we will see both with a swing during the late thirties to the monoplane. Some of the most iconic aircraft were developed during this period many of which went on to be in service during Britain’s darkest hour. The aircraft in this gallery are truly legendary and provided the RAF with some of its most recognisable machines.
